The initial idea for SaponiTown came from Linda Carter, Barry Carter, Crystal Rose and Emma Kelsey. They were organizing members of the Fort Christanna Saponi-Occoneechee Indians and envisioned a place where Saponi people could come together and share their history. The Saponitown website and forum was paid for and funded from Barry and Linda's joint checking account from its inception through December 2003 and was installed, administered and moderated by Linda. Barry Carter, Crystal Rose and Emma Kelsey were representing the Southside Va Native American's Descendents Association, now known as the Fort Christanna Saponi-Occoneechee Indians in their participation in the Saponitown website thus are primary contributors to Saponitown. The forum stayed idle for many months until Linda published and article titled "The Other Blackfoot" and finally people with eastern Blackfoot ancestry from around the country (known informally as the Blackfoot Diaspora) began breathing life into the forum and have been the primary contributors to this forum through December 2005. Bill Childs, Tech Teach, Tom Poulson, Lynella, Brenda Collins Dillon, Brenda Sampsel, saj, Stacey and many others are also principal contributors. Today people from every Siouan tribes have posted on Saponitown. Many people have reconnected with their Saponi roots via the Saponitown forum and new people arrive each day. This website is owned by the principal contributors as defined herein. Everyone is free to participate on the forum. Please join our forum and introduce yourself. We are eager to gather all the information we can on our families, and to build a base of reference material for all Saponi people.
